The Once-Ler at Willow Park

At Willow Park we are fully inclusive, and embrace our young people’s interests.

One of our students who joined us early September quickly showed an interest in the Dr Seuss books and in her own words “a hyperfixation is Dr Suess’s The Lorax”. Amelia has fully immersed herself into the story, making cosplay outfits of her favourite character the Once-Ler. She likes that the depiction of the character in the book is mysterious and a little creepy as he does not fully reveal himself.

As part of her cosplay, she ordered long green gloves, as in the book. We then went around Willow Park School taking pictures in the same style as the book, discussing what mischief the Once-Ler would get up to in Willow Park.

The joy and laughter this brought to all involved was contagious and it was a pleasure to be part of bring her vision to life. We are now planning a trip to the Lorax Park – and buying a lot of Dr Seuss books for the school library!
